How long have you been running - 8 years since 2001

 

Goals - To stay injury free through out 2009 and hopefully complete 4 of the buff skyrunner series and come away with a ranking at the end of the season.

 

Racing programme 2009 - I plan to run the inter counties cross country and run some of the Saab Salomon turbo-x races which start in March. I want to try and run under 3hrs for the three peaks this year, and I will be definitely doing the Ben Nevis race again and hopefully the kinabalu climbathon in Malaysia in October.

 

Occupation- Fire-fighter

 

Based- Maryport on the west coast of Cumbria.

 

Coached by - I coach myself but train with other members of Ellenborough ac. Brian Taylor, Jackie Winn and Laura park.

 

Type of runner - Mild over pronator/fell runner.

 

Favourite Salomon shoe and why - Speed cross 2. Think i’ve had 7 or 8 pairs of these now. I find you can almost run anything in these-long, short, steep. Fast just about any race and for the longer races they are really well cushioned.

 

Favourite distance - I don’t mind running over any distance, i just like to race. I find i am better over the longer distance’s at the minute though.

 

Favourite race/event - i think the ben nevis race is one of the best races in the uk… Its relentless from the start to the finish and the race has a great atmosphere. The festivities after the race are not bad either!

 

Valmalenco-valposchiavo a race which runs from italy to switzweland is also a brilliant race, really well organised.

 

Favouite training session - anything that leaves me feeling as though i’ve had a really hard session.

 

Favourite pre race meal - bananas… Can’t get enough of them, ran ennerdale and wasdale horseshoe in 2006 and thats all i ate, but it got me round.

 

Best piece of advice for beginner/young athlete - keep at it… Alot of runners set off with high expectations, your never going to be a brilliant runner from the word go, it takes alot of hard work and dedication.

 

Interests & hobbies - Anything to do with outdoor sports really, mainly running, mountain biking, swimming.
