The Grossglocknerberglauf was run on Sunday 17 July.  More than 1000 starters took on the very steep 13km course.  With the final 800m rising 200 vertical metres it was a tough finish to the 2450m arrival point.

Salomon International runners Anna Frost, Zhanna Vokueva, Tom Owens, and Caitlin Smith were present as well as Salomon Austrian team members Jonathan Wyatt, Bernd Weberhofer, Thomas Heigl, Robert Starck, Antonella Confortola, Martin Mattle and Robert Gruber.

Women:

Antonella Confortola running for Salomon Austria and guest in the Salomon International team for this event was able to show her good form again.  Last week she won the Silver Medal at the European Mountain Running Championship and this week she won the Women's race at the Grossglocknerberglauf. Confortola commented, “I felt good, strong in the first two thirds of the race, when the technical running started I had a small fall so I tried to just maintain my position after that.”

Salomon International team runner Zhanna Vokueva had a strong run to finish 4
th in her first run up the steep Glockner track.  Caitlin Smith, more used to flatter trails enjoyed her first experience in
Austria finishing 6th.  “It was a really different experience from what I have done before and I am really glad I came here to race.”

Anna Frost battled away and while 15minutes slower than her last years performance she was philosophical. “I haven’t trained enough and to win the 4 trails last week in germany over 4 days and 158km it really took all my energy so now I am super motivated to get some good training in for races later in the year.”

Men:
In the Men's race Salomon International and Austrian team member Jonathan Wyatt battled up to 5
th place with this being the first race in 6 months following injury. “I was pleased to get a race under my belt – after a full 6 months.  It has been about 20years since I went so long without a race!!”

Tom Owens had a big week last week winning the 4 trails race in germany so needed a shorter race and finished well for 15th position in a very strong men’s field.

Team Austria runners Robert Starck, Martin Mattle and Thomas Heigl supported well and finished in the top 15.

Next race for the international team will be in Italy, the Dolomiti Sky race in Canazei.  Team members Tom Owens, Anna Frost, Zhanna Vokueva and Philipp Reiter will train in the Val di Fiemme to prepare for this and the next events.
