Once Kilian had settled on the Tahoe Rim Trail for the North American leg of his Quest, the hunt was on for a selection of gifted trail runners both willing and able to keep him company. Adam Chase, a tax lawyer and experienced Jack of all Trails from Boulder Colorado, played head honcho, keeping a close watch on Kilian and his handpicked “pacing posse”. Bryon Powell is as prolific a writer as he is runner. Local hero, Ross McMahan, ran his first 10K at 11 and achieved All-Conference status in college before moving out west to Lake Tahoe. He now follows a rigorous sports regimen of trail running, adventure racing, mountain biking and off-road triathlons. Jean-Michel Faure-Vincent, a veteran on the French trail-running scene, whose job and passion for all things sporting brings him into close contact with top athletes, is an ideal choice for running mate. Kevin Johnson, from Salomon’s North American headquarters, joined fellow Nordic skier Josh Korn from Wisconsin. Sean Miessner, an ultra-marathon runner of 8 years standing, is a close friend of Bryon’s and was press-ganged into the pacing pack after winning the Lake Tahoe Marathon the day before the record attempt.
