TABLE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE 2011 :
This is a famous trail running race in South
Africa with 800 trail runners at the start.
37 kilometers race around Table Mountain with
+1640m.
The race is really fast to the kilometer 8 on a large track
with some hills.
From the kilometer 8 to the 18, it's becoming technical,
with a lot of rocks on a wilde single track.
From the kilometer 18 to the finish, the trail is
comparable to a Sky-Running, with some very technical
parts. +1000m for this last part.
The Salomon Team was in South Africa during a week
to promote the Trail Running in the 3 main cities :
Johannesburg, Durban and Cap Town.
KILIAN JORNET WINS THE TABLE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE IN SOUTH AFRICA
The athlete from Cerdanya has won in a time of 3:41:47h, a new record in the
Table Mountain Challenge, a 37-kilometer race run in the South African Table
Mountains, within the project 5 Races 5 Continents.
With the Kinabalu (Asia) yet to be run, Jornet has won the 4 races in the
continents where he has run.
Kilian Jornet has done it again. This morning the Catalan athlete won the Table
Mountain Challenge 2011, a 37-kilometer race run in the impressive South African
Table Mountains. Jornet crossed the finishing line in 3:41:47 h, establishing a new
race record, ahead of Greg Vollet (3:46h) and Allen Benn (3:49h).
The Cerdanya athlete commented that
flat terrain and, after that, we climbed up the Table Mountains, running all the
way up before the final descent”.
From the very start, the Catalan athlete ran within the leading group made up of four
runners and he states that “
second check point before attacking on the ascent and maintaining my lead
until the end. This enabled me to enjoy the incredible views over the Atlantic
coast and to save energy for my next goals”.

With this victory, Kilian is one step away from achieving a full house in his Project 5
Races 5 Continents, in which he has taken part in the most important race in each
continent, obtaining, to date, victory in the 4 races in which he has run.
The Project began in Australia with his victory in The North Face 100 K, followed by
his victory in WS 100, in the USA, then Europe with his triumph in the UTMB and
today’s first position in the South African Table Mountains Challenge. Kilian will try to
close the circle in Asia when he runs in Kinabalu on 23rd October.

FITURE EVENTS:
After his victory in the South African Table Mountain, the season continues on
2nd October
special race for Kilian, given that it runs along the trails where he grew up. This will
be the second time the Catalan takes part in this race and he will strive for victory, as
last year an injury hindered him from doing so.
ANNA FROST WINS THE TABLE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE IN SOUTH AFRICA :

in a time of 4:11:09h, a new record
in the Table Mountain Challenge.
Susan Sloane from Salomon South
Africa arrive in second position in a
time of 4:27:13, nice performance for
this woman who was competing more
than 20km for the first time in a race !
Anna finished 6th overall ! "the first
half of the race was too rolling and
too fast for me, so I expected the
second half to widen the gap and
catch up some mens."

Anna will be in Malaysia for running
the Kinabalu Race on october 22nd , but the main goal for her to the end of this
season will be the NF50 at San Francisco start of december.

RYAN SANDES WINS THE TABLE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE WITH THE
SALOMON MEN'S RELAY TEAM
Still recovering from his win at the Leadville
100 in Colorado, Ryan pushed hard through
Llandudno Ravine, but wasn't feeling too
good coming down Kasteelspoort.
He said at the finish :
rhythm from the Pipe Track to the finish.
I know the route very well, so that
helped a lot".
Congratulation to his teammates Greg
Goodall and Nicholas Rupanga from
Salomon South Africa, they smashed the
course in a time of 3:27:13h
Ryan will now preparing is next goal, a
one week Stage Race in Nepal mid
november.
