RUMON CARTER

Country /city: Victoria, BC, Canada

Date of birth/Age: January 29, 1975 (37)

Best results/Records: Stating my race results amidst those of my Flight Crew teammates would be an exercise is highlighting the mediocrity of my top end foot speed and endurance.

Though I've stood on the podium of races such as the Canadian National 50km Ultramarathon Championships and Ironman Canada, more recently my running - and sport in general - has been more about exploration, adventure, and advocating that others include the same in their lives in the interests of health promotion and wilderness conservation.  (Though I admit this all may simply be a rationalization for my declining athletic abilities!)

Adventures: In recent years, my biggest adventure has been grappling with a heart condition, its physiological and athletic performance effects and working towards a (hopeful) resolution. This condition comes and goes, sometimes allowing me to get all the way through an ultra-distance event unfettered, sometimes shutting me down two reps into a hill workout. \

Working through and around this condition makes fitness an ongoing challenge, but the rewards of running are simply too many to pass up.  And so, in 2011 I participated in a fantastic triad of multi-day events, the Tour TransAlp (road cycling), TransRockies Challenge (mountain bike) and TransAlpine Run, running through four countries in eight days over distances up to 53km.  The best part of the adventure: I did the last of these with my wife.

Favorite food, band, spare time:

Food: my homemade pizza; Band: Pearl Jam; Spare time: Sitting on my deck at home, staring at the flames in my fire pit, listening to the sounds in the park behind my house.

Hobbies: Seeking out and listening to new music; seeking out and indulging in more spare time.

Job: Photographer, video director/producer, consultant, lawyer.

Sports played: Anything heavy on the need for pig-headed endurance, light on the need for any kind of hand-eye coordination.
